The Rifle River in northeast lower Michigan was not a place of solitude and quiet contemplation this past weekend. Paddlers by the dozens, then the hundreds and I am sure the thousands took to the water to drift, paddle, laugh and party on the waters of the Rifle. Although I am most fond of paddling in silent splendor it was great to see so many out enjoying the wonders of Michigan's pure waters. And I would like to think that when environmental issues appear on ballots some of these very same 'party as you paddle' folks will vote to preserve, support and fund their passions.
Nature does not make new wonders. |

Lets just hope that they left the river and it's banks as clean as they found them!!!
Laurie. Some did litter. Most did not. But it was great to see other paddlers and river drifters cleaning up after the sloppy ones.
